2010 Passenger Numbers are in for Local Airport
January 18, 2011

Total airline passengers at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport increased 48% in 2010. A total of 33,106 passengers enplaned and deplaned in 2010 compared to 22,361 in 2009. The Airport also experienced a 47% decrease in the total number of flights cancelled in 2010 compared to the prior year.

Airport Manager Charity Speich attributes the increase in passenger traffic and the decrease in flights cancelled to the new United Express Airlines all jet service to the Chippewa Valley introduced in March 2010 with flights to Chicago O’Hare and beyond. Speich says, “Airline passengers are experiencing lower pricing, greater flexibility, and higher reliability since the new all jet service started in March.”

Construction on the second phase of the terminal development project also continues at the Airport. This final phase of terminal development at the Airport will add a passenger boarding bridge, baggage carousel, and continue to improve the energy efficiency of the entire terminal building. The project is currently on time and under budget.

The Airport finished the year with 28,324 total aircraft operations or aircraft takeoffs and landings.

Skywest Airlines to Serve the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport with Flights to Chicago

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Skywest Airlines was selected recently by the US Department of Transportation to fly from the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL. Skywest is the world’s largest independently owned airline. They employ more than 10,000 professionals and serve 152 cities with more than 1,500 daily departures. Skywest will fly as United Express and operate a Bombardier CRJ 200, a 50 seat jet aircraft. Service will likely not start prior to January or February 2010, but an exact date has not yet been set. Schedule and pricing for the route have not yet been determined so bookings are not available at this time. Both on time and completion performance has increased exponentially with the completion of the latest runway at Chicago O'Hare. Additional runways scheduled for future construction will continue to enhance airline performance at O'Hare.

The Skywest service will replace the current service provider, Mesaba Airlines who flies as Delta Connection. Travelers who have tickets already purchased on Delta Airlines between now and the end of the year will still be able to use those tickets as flights will continue business as usual. The Chippewa Valley will retain Delta Connection service right up until Skywest takes over in 2010.
